If you’re anything like me then you love to spend time outdoors. Sometimes during the hottest months we have to work a little harder to stay properly hydrated. Here’s what I do.
Of course, drinking lots of water is a no-brainer. Take frequent breaks from the sun and sit down in the shade to cool off for awhile. Fruits give us a lot of electrolytes that we need to get and stay hydrated so I boost up my fruit consumption during the warmer months. Watermelon is one that I’m particularly fond of, not only for the taste but also for the health benefits of not only hydration but also for the aid in helping to protect our bodies from the ill effects of UV light.
Pay attention to your muscles when you’re exposed to heat or sweating for extended periods of time. If you’re experiencing stiff, cramping muscles after working out in the heat there’s a chance you’re dehydrated. One of the easiest ways is to watch the color of your urine. Urine should be clear to pale yellow. If it’s dark, and not caused by vitamins, supplements, or certain medications, drink more water and electrolytes.
Treat your body right this summer and remember to stay hydrated!
